BAPS (British Association of Pediatric Surgeons) is pleased to offer a scholarship (monetary value £3000) to overseas trainee Paediatric Surgeons nearing the end of their pediatric surgical training or those who have been appointed as consultants in the past two years to attend the annual BAPS scientific congress in Bruges, Belgium, and spend three months in a center of their choice in the UK.

The ‘BAPS Scholar’ will be selected and nominated by their home specialty associations.

The successful scholar is expected to present a poster at the BAPS International Congress and, therefore, should submit an abstract for the proposed presentation along with their application. The scholar would also be expected to give a short 2-minute presentation during the International Forum session of the BAPS Congress.

This year, the candidate should be from Western Africa, which includes the following countries:

• Republic of Benin
• Burkina Faso
• Republic of Cabo Verde
• Republic of Côte d’Ivoire
• Republic of the Gambia
• Republic of Ghana
• Republic of Guinea• Republic of Guinea-Bissau
• Republic of Liberia
• Republic of Mali
• Republic of Niger
• Federal Republic of Nigeria
• Republic of Senegal
• Republic of Sierra Leone
• Togolese Republic

Applications should be submitted in English to the Honorary Secretary of the Pan African Pediatric Surgical Association (PAPSA) at chitnis.m@gmail.com by 1700 hrs. Pretoria on December 31st, 2024.

PAPSA will then forward a recommendation to the International Affairs Committee following a local selection process. The IAC will make a final recommendation, and the decision will be communicated to the successful candidate after confirmation from the BAPS Executive Committee. Applications should include the following documents in English:

1. Short (2 pages) Curriculum Vitae

2. A 200-word document outlining the reasons why this fellowship would be helpful

3. Abstract for poster presentation (maximum 300 words)

BAPS (Association Britannique des Chirurgiens Pédiatriques) a le plaisir d’offrir une bourse (d’une valeur monétaire de 3000 £) aux chirurgiens pédiatriques en formation venus de l’étranger, proches de la fin de leur formation en chirurgie pédiatrique ou ceux ayant été nommés consultants au cours des deux dernières années, afin de participer au congrès scientifique annuel de la BAPS à Bruges, en Belgique, et de passer trois mois dans un centre de leur choix au Royaume-Uni.

Le « Boursier BAPS » sera sélectionné et nommé par leurs associations professionnelles nationales. Le boursier retenu devra présenter un poster lors du Congrès International de la BAPS et devra soumettre un résumé de la présentation proposée avec sa candidature. Le boursier devra également faire une brève présentation de 2 minutes lors de la session du Forum International du Congrès BAPS.

Les candidatures doivent être soumises en anglais au Secrétaire Honoraire de l’Association Pan-Africaine des Chirurgiens Pédiatriques (PAPSA) à l’adresse suivante : chitnis.m@gmail.com avant 17h00, heure de Pretoria, le 31 décembre 2024. PAPSA transmettra ensuite une recommandation au Comité des Affaires Internationales après un processus de sélection local.

Le Comité des Affaires Internationales (IAC) fera une recommandation finale, et la décision sera communiquée au candidat retenu après confirmation par le Comité Exécutif de la BAPS.
