BAPS Scholarship 2026

The British Association of Paediatric Surgeons (BAPS) is pleased to offer a scholarship (monetary value: £1500) to overseas trainee Paediatric Surgeons who are in the final year of their paediatric surgical training or who have been appointed as consultants not earlier than 1 February 2024, to attend the annual BAPS 2026 scientific congress.

This year, the scholarship is open to the following countries and nation-states in North Africa.

  • People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria
  • Arab Republic of Egypt
  • Libya
  • Islamic Republic of Mauritania
  • Kingdom of Morocco
  • Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic
  • Republic of Tunisia

The ‘BAPS Scholar for Africa’ will be chosen and nominated by their home speciality association/society. The Honorary Secretary or the Honorary President of the national association/society must submit the application to the Pan African Pediatric Surgical Association (PAPSA) at PAPSA.communication@gmail.com by 17:00 hrs Pretoria time on 31 January 2026.

The International Affairs Committee of the BAPS WILL NOT ACCEPT any direct applications for the scholarships without endorsement of the applicant’s regional or national paediatric surgical confederation/association.

PAPSA will then forward a recommendation to the International Affairs Committee of the BAPS following a local selection process. The IAC will make a final recommendation by, and the decision will be communicated to the successful candidates after confirmation from the BAPS Executive Committee in February.

The successful scholar is expected to present a poster at the BAPS International Congress and, therefore, should submit an abstract for the proposed presentation along with their application. The scholar would also be expected to give a short 2-minutepresentation during the International Forum session of the BAPS Congress.

Applications should include:

1. Short (2-page) Curriculum Vitae in English
2. A 200-word document outlining the reasons why this scholarship would be helpful.
3. Abstract for poster presentation (maximum three hundred words)
