Professor Numanoglu is Emeritus Professor of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Cape Town & Head of Paediatric Surgery at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa. Prof Numanoglu received his undergraduate degree from Ege University in Turkey and specialised in General and Paediatric Surgery in Cape Town.
He has special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery, surgical skills training and web based surgical education. He is in charge of Surgical Skills Training Centre in Cape Town. He has established a dedicated paediatric colo-rectal unit, joined the colo-rectal outreach programs to African countries and organised international congresses dedicated to management of colo-rectal conditions in resource limited settings.
He was the secretary and treasurer of South African Association of Paediatric Surgeons, Past President of Pan African Paediatric Surgery Association and Africa Regional Area Representative of WOFAPS.

Dr. Ademuyiwa has been actively involved in research in his specialty of Paediatric Surgery in the areas of neonatal surgery, gastroenterology and colorectal surgery in children as well as wound closure techniques and surgical education. Recently, Dr. Ademuyiwa’s interest has been in the unique role of paediatric surgery as an integral part of public health making him to be actively involved in several collaborations including the Globalsurg Collaborative, GloobalPaedSurg and Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery (GICS). He is currently the Executive Secretary of Pan Africa Paediatric Surgery Association (PAPSA). Chief of the Pediatric surgery department at the Teaching Hospital of Treichville, she is also the head of the Pediatric surgery Teaching department at the University Felix Houphouet Boigny of Cocody. Deeply involved in her community, she founded and is now president of the non-governmental organization ‘Cure our children in Africa’.
The NGO has been collaborating with Smile Train for 5 years in order to provide free surgical treatment to impoverished families. Amongst other titles, she is a 2018 International Scholar of The American Plastic Surgery Foundation, a member of the Global Initiative for Children Surgery (GICS), and an executive member of the Pan African Pediatric Surgery Association (PAPSA). Dr Abdelbasit E Ali is an Associate Professor of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Khartoum and a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Soba University Hospital in Khartoum, Sudan. Currently, he is a Consultant and Head of Department of Paediatric Surgery at King Saud Medical City in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He received his Paediatric Surgical training in Sudan, UK and Australia. He is a founding member and Ex convener of the Paediatric Surgery Specialty Council, Sudan Medical Specialization Board (SMSB) and a founding member and Academic Secretary of the Sudanese Association of Paediatric Surgeons (SAPS). He is a member of the Executive Council of PAPSA. His areas of interest are Neonatal Surgery, Paediatric Urology and Developmental Sex Disorders and Laparoscopic Surgery. He is actively involved in Paediatric Surgical training and organized and facilitated many Neonatal and Laparoscopic Surgery workshops at home and abroad. Professor Kokila Lakhoo is a consultant paediatric surgeon at the Children’s Hospital in Oxford and the University of Oxford. Recently she received an honorary professorship from University of Witwatersrand Johannesburg, South Africa and Muhimbili University, Tanzania She is director of a global surgery course for Oxford University and represents Oxford University for children’s global surgery matters.
She is chair of the international forum for the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons and is personally developing paediatric surgery through a link in Tanzania, Malawi and South Africa. She is the president of Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery (GICS) that has followed on from the Lancet Commission.
